Abstract

One of the main problems encountered by businessmen of the Kaunas county is insufficient competitiveness level. One of the ways to increase the competitiveness of the region is to improve applied business development incentive measures here.
The object of the research is regional business growth promotion.
The purpose of the research is to investigate current condition of the use of business development incentive measures in the Kaunas county and to determine their impact on different aspects of the organization’s activities.
The methodology of the research. The purpose is achieved by summarizing results of empirical research of Kaunas county organisations’ survey. Questionnaire survey involved 153 Kaunas county organisations’; the organizations surveyed were selected randomly.Results collected during the survey have been processed by Microsoft Excel and SPSS software packages. Descriptive and graphic methods have been used for the analysis and assessment of the research results.
The research is carried out as a part of the project „Formation of methodological framework of regional business growth promotion” (LT-LV (LV-LT/1.1/LLIII-152/2010) and is vital for the achievement of its objectives. Results of the research will help to formulate a methodological framework for the promotion of business development of the region.
The results of the research enabled to find out what types of business support the organizations of the region use, what are the most prevalent types; determine how the information about support usually reach the organizations, what tools should be used to inform organizations about available support; determine the institutions that support organizations apply for support most often; survey the opinion of businessmen of when the support is most needed for organization; determine and quantify the need for various forms of support for organizations; quantify the perception of effectiveness of various means of support by businessmen of the region; evaluate the effect of the received support on various aspects of organizational activity; determine the reasons that stop organizations from using the available business support.
